POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Youth Development Director, a Summer Camp Counselor for the YMCA of Coastal Carolina provides direction and supervision of all group activities while implementing best practices.
Counselors provide a fun, engaging, and quality experience to children, with intentional focus on YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring, while putting the quality and safety of our program at the upmost of importance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Models the YMCA Mission and Values daily.
Nurtures children through purposeful programming; plans activities that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes, are culturally relevant, are developmentally appropriate, and or consistent with the Y’s values.
Supervises the children and all activities while maintaining appropriate child to staff ratios.
Builds personal and meaningful relationships with participants; models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
Always engages fully with all children.
Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child’s needs and progress; connects families to the Y.
Maintain program site and equipment.
Wear provided staff shirt and name tag while working.
Maintain required program records.

Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
Attend and participate in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
Ability to clean and organize within the daily operations of the program.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum age is 16 years old.
Previous experience working with children in a camp setting preferred.
Superb leadership, communication, and collaboration abilities.
Exceptional problem-solving skills.
Ability to work all weeks and attend all trainings with limited vacation or days off.
Makes sound judgements, and transfers learning from one situation to another.
Embraces new approaches and discover ideas to create a better member experience.
Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and assigned Redwoods trainings completed prior to first day of camp.

Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.

Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities in a variety of indoor and/or outdoor settings.

Maintain a safe and clean facility.
Handle conflict resolution with ease and in a positive manner.
